Maarten van der Scheer
Maarten has been in the aviation industry since 2007, after his degree in Business Administration. In various strategic roles and management positions at Royal Schiphol Group, he worked with many stakeholders on the future development of Schiphol Airport. As a board member of an aviation research consortium, he was always keen on innovation and smart solutions for difficult problems. Since mid 2022, Maarten is the CEO of Bonaire International Airport N.V., the operator of Flamingo Airport.
Safety, Sustainability and Service are his main priorities. “For many Bonaire residents, Flamingo Airport is a gateway to the region and the rest of the world. In addition, it is an important place for visitors to our island where their stay begins and ends. Affordable and sustainable inter-island connectivity is one of our top priorities and this offers a great opportunity for the islands.”

The Dutch Caribbean Cooperation of Airports (DCCA) is organizing the 1stInternational Sustainable Air Transportation event called “A Flight To The Future” in Aruba in November 2022. A one-week event filled with presentations, panel discussion, masterclasses and test flight demonstrations with the Pipistrel Velis Electro, the first certified electric aircraft, all with the purpose of sharing knowledge, creating dialogue on the future of aviation and on interisland connectivity in the Dutch Caribbean.
